How About a Little Funk & Soul?

Relax under the pines, bring your family and friends, and get funky with The Georgia Soul Council!
They'll be serving up their unique style of R&B, soul, and funk music.
Saturday, September 1st
8pm
Matilda's Cottage in Alpharetta

The Georgia Soul Council formed in 2010 as the backing band for Otis Redding III, did a couple of shows with him and his brother Dexter, and then got back together in 2011 to fulfill a few obligations. With that, came a shift towards the bluebreak-era jazz-funk which is their real love. Look out for the GSC bringing the FUNK to the people of Atlanta and beyond.

Art Classes at Matilda's Cottage

We're excited to announce the start of something new at Matilda's Cottage in Alpharetta. Starting in September, you can spend a morning, afternoon, or evening in the colorful main cottage learning how to create imaginative works of art!

Our first class will be Memory Jug Making with PJ Fishstick on Thursday and Friday, September 13th and 14th from 10-12:30. In this class, you will transform your battered and bruised family mementos into one-of-a-kind family heirloom art pieces to be handed down through the generations. After learning the history of memory jugs, you will create an art piece and an accompanying historical document book.

On Saturday, September 15th, Maureen Engle will show you how to paint some folk art fruit. She is offering a 3 hour class at 10am or 2pm. Maureen will also be offering other classes on painting with a palette knife and watercolor painting throughout September and October.

We will be adding more classes as we finalize details with other artists, so follow the blog or follow us on Facebook or Twitter to get the latest updates.

More details on the artists, their class offerings, and registration can be found above under the "Fall 2012 Art Class Schedule" tab. Or call Matilda's at 770-754-7831.

Kick Up Your Flip Flops

We know it's only Wednesday, but let's talk about the weekend. Along with sleeping late, we plan on kicking up our flip-flops on Saturday night to enjoy The Ralph Roddenberry Band on the back porch at Matilda's Cottage.

The Ralph Roddenbery Band is a dynamic blend of Americana, roots rock, and a twist of the blues. By combining four part harmonies with energizing riffs, captivating lyrics, remarkable stage presence and a driving rhythm section, RRB is able to connect with their audience in a way that makes them feel as if they are having a one on one conversation about life. The Ralph Roddenbery Band consists of Ralph Roddenbery (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Ted Norton (lead guitar/vocals), Richie Jones (drums/vocals), Tommy Jones (bass) and Samantha Alessi-Jones (vocals).

Ralph Roddenbery is a unique and impressionable singer/songwriter who has been part of the Athens and Atlanta music scene for many years. He honed his songwriting & performance skills under the tutelage of Bill Berry (R.E.M), John Keane, Randall Bramblett, Davis Causey and Dave Schools (Widespread Panic) while he was living in Athens.

Visit Ralph's website for more information on his music.
The Ralph Roddenberry Band will play Saturday, August 28th at 8pm.
Tickets are $15 for adults. Kids under 16 are free with parents.
